About the Centre
01 / Mission
Ethiopia Rights Evidence Centre is an independent publication documenting human-rights developments connected to Ethiopia. It exists to make reliable information easier to find, understand and evaluate.
We combine careful reporting with accessible legal and policy analysis. The publication is non-partisan: standards do not change with the identity of the person, community, institution or actor involved.
Editorial policy
We assess information without instruction from political, governmental or partisan actors.
We publish only when the available evidence supports clear, appropriately qualified conclusions.
We consider consent, foreseeable harm and a person’s control over identifying information.
We distinguish fact, allegation, analysis and opinion, and explain material limitations.
People and institutions facing substantive criticism receive a fair opportunity to respond where practicable.
Material errors are corrected promptly, visibly and without obscuring the nature of the change.
Methodology
We establish the public-interest purpose, source relationship, consent position and potential harms before collecting more detail.
We examine proximity, motive, consistency, access to information and whether a source’s account can be independently tested.
We compare testimony with documents, verified media, official records, relevant experts and additional independent sources.
We apply legal, editorial and protection review; request relevant responses; label uncertainty; and schedule updates when needed.
Corrections
Readers may identify factual errors, missing context or evidence that materially affects a publication. Substantive corrections will explain what changed and why; minor typographical changes may be made without a note.
